I HAVE BOOKED A NEWBORN SESSION, WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM IT?
Newborn sessions are relaxed and slow-paced as we work around the needs of your baby. Ideally, baby will be awake when you arrive and ready for big feed so they are ready for a nice long sleep! Our style is a combination of posed and more natural images of baby using wraps, bonnets, hairbands and soft animals and hearts and we will aim to photograph baby both in props and on our beanbag in a variety of comfortable and safe poses. We are happy to photograph the new baby with siblings if they have any and parents too but please relay this information to us before-hand if you are bringing any siblings.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY NEWBORN SESSION?
We recommend booking your newborn photography session when you have had your 20 week scan so we can pencil in a date based on your due date.
WHEN WILL MY SESSION TAKE PLACE?
Please let us know when you’re baby arrives, and we can confirm your session, ideally within the first 7-14 days of baby’s life.
HOW DO WE PREPARE FOR THE SESSION?
If baby is breastfed we advise Mums to avoid spicy/acidic/gassy food for 24 hours before the session. Also, try to keep baby awake for as long as possible before the session and ready for a big feed on arrival. Please dress baby in something easy to remove and keep their nappy as loose as possible to avoid marks on their skin.
DO WE NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
We have wraps, outfits and props to create images you will love. If you have a sentimental teddy or a favourite outfit/blanket and you would like us to incorporate these into the shoot please bring them and we will try our best.
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?
Sessions can last anywhere from 2 – 4 hours (on occasion it has been more) as these are completely baby led and your baby’s every need will be attended to in order to ensure they are comfortable and happy throughout their time in the studio. We only schedule one newborn session each day to allow time to ensure parents and baby are completely relaxed. Our studio will be functioning that day according to yours and your baby’s needs so rest assured you will be our number one priority.
WILL I GET TO CHOOSE THE COLOUR SCHEME?
It is so important that you love your images which is why, when you book your session, you can choose from our muted colour schemes so you can ensure you are happy with the colour tones used and that they will blend into your home when it comes to wall art too.
WILL YOU BE HANDLING MY BABY?
It is so important for us to get to know and understand your baby so we can read their cues and respond appropriately. We want your baby to look peaceful in the images so it is important they get used to our photographer holding and soothing them.
WHAT DO WE DO WHILE YOU ARE LOOKING AFTER OUR BABY?
Relax with a hot drink or glass of water and put your feet up! The studio will be warm as this helps to keep baby settled so dress in layers so you don’t get too hot. Rest assured if we feel baby needs to come back to you for a feed or settling we will do so.
WHAT IF MY BABY CRIES OR DOESN’T SETTLE?
This is only natural and doesn’t tend to last the entire session. If baby cries and no amount of soothing, changing, feeding and winding changes this we can simply reschedule your session as it may be that they are coming down with something. More often, with some time, patience and perseverance all babies will settle and we will be able to create beautiful images – awake or asleep.
ARE YOUR NEWBORN SESSIONS SAFE?
Your baby’s safety is our number one priority. We will not put your baby into any poses that they seem uncomfortable in or without following safety guidelines. We will handle your baby gently throughout and will not rush them at any time during the session. Not all babies are comfortable in every pose. We maintain a watchful eye on their colouring, circulation and breathing to always ensure they are perfectly safe and happy.
HAVE YOU HAD ANY TRAINING WITH NEWBORNS?
When we decided to open our own studio we sought training before handling a single baby. This training covers safety when handling and posing newborns, use of props, wrapping babies, styling and lighting.
ME OR MY BABY HAS SCRATCHES/FLAKY SKIN/ACNE – IS THIS A PROBLEM?
Although it may take longer to edit out any marks, flakes or acne, this is all part of the editing process and will be delicately removed during post-processing. We will discuss with you which elements you might want to show in the images and which you would want removing or softening.
WHAT IF MY BABY MAKES A MESS ON YOUR THINGS (APPLICABLE TO CAKESMASH AND NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY)?
Our studio is highly used to working alongside children and there is always a high chance of accidents! It has happened before and it will happen again many times so it really isn’t a problem and you don’t need to feel guilty! We aim for our sessions to be a positive experience for our customers and we are well stocked on cleaning products.
CAN I CHANGE OUTFIT/HAVE MULTIPLE OUTFITS PER SESSION?
Our only package that allows our customers to have a change of outfit is the PLATINUM package so we request that our customers arrive to the studio wearing the clothes they would like to be photographed in.
I’M GOING TO BE LATE, WHAT NOW?
We understand that things might come up last minute but session time cannot be extended due to the client’s late arrival. Failure to arrive on time will automatically cancel the photoshoot with no refunds issued. If you would like to reschedule your session with us we require a 48 hour notice before your book in date. This will allow our studio to rebook your session without you losing your deposit.
I WOULD LIKE TO GET THE PICTURE OF MY PET TAKEN, CAN I BRING MY FOUR LEGGED FRIEND INTO THE BRIDGES?
Pet portrait sessions must be booked in advance and can only be scheduled for evenings or Sunday mornings due to The Bridge’s internal policy. Please contact us for details if you’re unsure about bringing your pet into the centre.
CAN I TAKE MY OWN PHOTOS?
You are welcome to take a couple of behind the scenes photos of us during your session to remember this special time and to share them (and tag us!), however these shouldn’t be close ups of just the subject in a set up as these are the images you have paid our studio to take and a phone photo will not do them justice!
DO YOU EDIT THE IMAGES?
During your session, we will take hundreds of photos. This consists of numerous angles of each pose and often very similar images, re-takes due to blinks/eyes opening, focusing on different areas and so on. Using our creative discretion, we only delicately edit the very best images including removing unsightly blemishes, colour correcting, detail enhancing and creative development to create the final photo which is what you will see during your viewing appointment and in your gallery.
HOW MANY IMAGES WILL I GET?
That will vary with the package you purchase. To ensure you get the images you like the most our team picks the best photos for you and uploads them on a gallery. This gallery will vary in size and it is as follows: For the bronze package you will get a gallery of 6 images to which you can pick 3, for the silver package you will get a gallery of 10 images to which you can pick 6, for the gold package you will get a gallery of 15 images to which you can pick 12 and for the platinum package you get access to all the photos. If you have chosen the bronze package and wish to have access to more than just 6 pictures you would have to upgrade your package.
DO I HAVE TO CHOOSE AN IMAGE PACKAGE BEFORE I BOOK?
You will need to pay a deposit of £50 on booking. When you arrive for your photography session you will pay the remainder of your package price. However once you’ve had your image viewing if you want to upgrade you can do this too. You can also decide if you would like any wall art made. Your deposit will be taken off the price for whichever package you choose.
DO YOU SHARE IMAGES ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
We love to share a sneak peek of an image from your session where possible. We may also use any images from your final gallery on our social media pages as well as our website or blog as a promotional tool and most people love to see their baby/pet/group being featured in this way. If you would prefer your images not to be used in this way that’s fine too, please just let us know before your session.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE BEFORE WE CAN SEE THE PHOTOS?
Approximately 2 weeks however at busier or quieter times this could be more or less . We will aim to keep you updated on this. We meticulously edit each of your photos so that your natural beauty is the focus of the images and they are ready to proudly display on your wall.
HOW DO I ACCESS PHOTOS AFTER THE VIEWING APPOINTMENT?
This will be explained in detail at your appointment, as you will be given access to an online, password protected gallery where you can view, share and order your images if you didn’t at your viewing appointment.
IF WE ORDER WALL ART OR PRINTS, HOW LONG WILL MY ORDER TAKE?
We will provide you with information about prices and lead time prior to your viewing appointment.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR VOUCHERS.
Vouchers are valid for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. Cannot be redeemed after expiry date. Use of multiple vouchers. Only one gift voucher can be used per booking.
Services must be pre-booked. Vouchers can be redeemed by phone or in person only. There is no option for online. Redemption contact details are provided on the voucher. Vouchers are non-refundable. No change or credit given in the event that the voucher value exceeds the total cost of the session – for example where a £100 voucher is used to purchase a £99 package.
Vouchers can be used for part or full or part payment for a photographic session. Vouchers are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash.
Lost or stolen vouchers. Lost, stolen or destroyed gift vouchers will not be exchanged or refunded. In the unlikely event that a session needs to be cancelled then a new voucher will be issued and will be redeemable within 12 months from the date of reissue.
